Pericardial Cancer Mesothelioma
There is a known disease that causes an effect on the heart’s lining or pericardium. This disease is called the pericardial mesothelioma or the mesothelioma of the pericardium. This is a general fallacy that states that mesothelioma is a kind of primary lung cancer which is not true at all. It is actually a pericardial cancer of the serous membranes that surround a number of organs all the way through the body’s midsection, counting the heart. The most general kind of mesothelioma is the pleural mesothelioma, the one that has an effect on the lungs’ serous membranes.
Among the forms of mesothelioma cancer, the slightest general form is the pericardial cancer mesothelioma. This form of mesothelioma cancer can extend to the lungs. When this happens, it can be called a secondary lung cancer. Another name for mesothelioma can also be asbestos lung mesothelioma cancer though it does not really begin its formation in the lungs. The kind of lung disease that begins in the lungs is called asbestosis and also mistaken for mesothelioma.
Pericardial Mesothelioma Cancer
Among ten percent of the patients with mesothelioma can be found with pericardial cancer mesothelioma. Though pleural mesothelioma can quite be understood for inhalation of asbestos fibers which are formed in the lining of the lungs and may lead to cancer, pericardial mesothelioma does not. Pericardial mesothelioma grows because of the durability of the asbestos fibers that cannot be removed through the processes of the body. Eventually, these asbestos fibers may lead to constant inflammation that can lead to growth of cancerous tumors or it can grow in the serous lining of the heart which is called pericardium. There is a theory that states asbestos fibers are broken down into little parts and taken to the blood stream. The fibers are then pumped through the heart and lived in the lining of the heart which leads to chronic irritation and eventually development of cancer the same as pleural mesothelioma.
Because this condition is very uncommon, there is a small specified research on this kind of mesothelioma. There are about two thousand current cases of mesothelioma assessed every year and less than two hundred of these contain pericardial mesothelioma.
Symptoms of Pericardial Mesothelioma
There is a tendency of an accumulation of fluid and tissue expansion in the lungs when there is a fast development of cancerous tumors. This fluid can hinder the heart performance and bring about pain the chest and make the heartbeat irregular. After constant partial application, patients are assessed when they have a complaint of having pain in the chest or any other symptoms related to the heart. Other less general signs of pericardial mesothelioma cancer are shortness of cough and breath. Not similar to the lungs, other kinds of cancer metastasizing to the heart is uncommon .
Patients with pericardial cancer mesothelioma may contain three types of mesothelioma cancer cells such as biphasic mesothelioma, epithelioid mesothelioma, and sarcomatoid mesothelioma. This kind of cancer cells can have an influence on the diagnosis for mesothelioma. It is known that people who have biphasic mesothelioma cancer cells hold a quicker life expectancy.
